I woke up, it was Sunday morning. I could feel the excitement in the air, clouds filled the spring sky and the sun was darkened behind the clouds. Today was the day we were going snowboarding at Mt Ruapehu. A few hours later we all piled into the car; Mum, Dad, Ben, Vaughan, William and I, It was a long drive down to Taupo where we stayed in a house belonging to one of Dad’s friends.
Just as we were entering Taupo we could see the top of Mt Ruapehu, it was covered in bright gleaming white snow. I couldn’t wait until tomorrow when id be whizzing down the mountain.
In the morning we got up and were very disappointed to find it raining and to hear that all the snow on the mountain had been turned to slush. We thought we’d make the most of the day and go swimming in the hot pools and go rock climbing. Even though we didn’t go snowboarding it was still a fun day.
The next day it was perfect for snowboarding, there were only a few clouds in the sky and the sun was bright. It was an hour and twenty minutes drive to the mountain. There wasn’t to much snow but I wasn’t going to waste it, so we got strapped into our snowboards and we were off!
I love snowboarding, I have been once before and last year and loved it then too. It was a cold wet drive back to Taupo because the snow had slowly dripped down the back of my shirt and my feet were soaked. As soon as we got back I had a nice warm shower.
We were only planning on snowboarding for three days and since we didn’t go on the first day we decided whatever the weather
we would go to the snow tomorrow.
In the morning we got up and had breakfast, an hour and twenty minutes later we arrived at the mountain. Thick heavy clouds surrounded us with bright gleaming white snow gracefully falling from then. Further up the mountain it wasn’t as nice, the clouds we so thick you couldn’t see five metres in front of you.
It was awesome, we went right from the top all the way to the bottom. Whizzing down the snow and then flying over a jump and landing on our heads. Sadly we had to go home halfway through the day because it was just bad visibility.
The next day we all hopped in the car again and began our long journey home.
